I have a couple of individuals looking for a home equity loan … I told them I’d look into it for them. I’d like to find a quality vendor, but if referrals commissions are paid out, I’d like to negotiate for that too.

How do I figure out what is a “great deal”?

PS. I’ll happily take general replies but this would be specific to Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

A friend is saying it’s now a good time to buy a cheap house ~ $200k. I can afford it in Fresno. I also see news about default mortgages, house inventory going up and retail sales going down. Is this a good time to buy low? Another thing is whether Fresno is a good market because I live 3 hours away from there and have no idea except it’s pretty cheap out there. Any help would be appreciate?
