Paul’s Next Wife asked:

I just heard a news report about how this retail Christmas season was the worst in 40 years. How can they say that? Every time I went shopping, the stores were full. I didn’t give or receive any less than I did last year. Do you think that retail chains overestimate their projected earnings? Why do they make estimations of projected earnings at all? Did you cut way back this Christmas? Do you think that American corporations are too greedy? Are Americans too greedy? I’ve posed lots of questions here–answer any or all of them.

Utopian Friend asked:

Chinese authorities are fed up with the bad publicity with Chinese product export recalls & are claiming this is ‘disguised protectionism’ from other countries. This was reported on CBC NEWS WORLD TV Channel, Aug. 22, ‘07.
Last April thousands, probably more that were not reported, of family pets needlessly lost their lives to China’s unsafe production practices, & Chinese authorities consider all the other recalls uproar from other countries is DISGUISED PROTECTIONISM???? What do you think?
Interesting to note that a few years prior to the tainted pet food scandal, news outlets had quietly reported on unsafe jewelry imported by China that contained almost 90% lead. It was discovered when the outer layer of adult rings wore off & underneath the object contained lead. Had anyone sound warning bells regarding this story perhaps the rest of the world wouldn’t be directing it’s attention towards China so discriminatingly for their continual record of dangerous retail products?
