Is RETAIL MANAGEMENT looked down upon?

retail management
Basic asked:

Hello, I’m about to graduate and looking into retail management (Target, RiteAid, etc) as a possible career, however do people look down upon retail managers? In other words is it a respectable career? Something to be proud of and to brag to friends, family and complete strangers. I have worked in retail most of my life and have always wanted to get into a management position (retail management) lol. What do you guys think?

No. It’s not the job you have that makes you………. It’s what you do with the job you have that makes who you are. It sounded better in my head than it came out on here, but I hope you catch my drift.

It is only looked down on by those above you. It’s what you do in the job that counts. Just remember that the people who are below you are people. They have feelings. They have trust that those above them know what they are doing. That’s because they want to get a mortgage or a new vehicle or what ever. A lot of employers these days look on their employees as a cost instead of an asset and treat them as such. A good employer is one who is socially conscious as well as profit motivated.

Unfortunately, most people will look down on you. If you said you work at walmart, people usually think of the high school kid or person who didn’t do much with their lives. They are the ones who make up most of the company, not upper management.

If you said you worked at Google, people look highly upon you because they think of engineers, even if you’re just the custodian. I knew a lot of women who worked at google scanning books, and they were so proud to work at google because of the name.
