At one of my previous jobs, which was retail, they didn’t seem to care that I had a bachelors in Business. Rather than saying “Since he’s got a degree, we need to get him moved up..” They always opted to pass me over for people without college.

i don’t think that the degree matters in retail unless you are at the management level.
Maybe they saw you as being overqualified and were intimidated that if you move up, you might go for their positions some time in the future.

Retail jobs **** and that’s why. A person with a bachelor’s degree generally doesn’t stick with retail. The person with no education who has no other options will be in retail for life. Get a real job… seriously. You could get a much better job, with much better hours, and much better pay with your degree.

Most places want hands on training especially through their company. However, a degree should give you an edge in bigger companies in the management areas…but more of a marketing degree.

Most jobs in retail don’t need a degree, just know how that particular company operates….

It’s all about the customer. How do you treat the customers and your peers. If you are great with customers, organized, get a lot of work done in a short time….you’re on the right track.
The final ingredient is Leadership. To move up in any organization, it is your leadership skills that will get you there.
