I had previously worked a professional job years ago, but then went back to school for a bit. I tried to get back in the work force, but couldn’t find anything so I’ve been doing retail for the past 6 months. Should I include this when applying for these new professional jobs?

I don’t think it would detract from your resume, considering this economy. If you worked at more than one retail job, I would bundle them into one with the single time frame, though. Good luck!! ; )

I would as long as they will give a good reference. Also a letter of recommendation from school or past professional job couldn’t hurt either!

You should add some sort of job experience on your resume rather than not putting anything regarding employment. Your future employer can gain confidence in your responsibility level if you have had some sort of employment for an extended period of time. It shows that you are employable.
