At 16, you will likely be stuck sacking groceries. Most companies will not hire you for anything else because you are still a minor. Maybe fast food but that is about it.
Also working against you is the number of hours/times you can legally work.
Apply for any retail job opening you can find. The only jobs not open to you would be Adult oriented type work.(strip clubs,Bars, Casinos, Liquor stores) There should be a lot of retail sales jobs opening up for the holiday season. Try looking for a counter job at one of the big box retail stores.
The mall is your oasis. But brush up on interviewing skills and customer service skills is a definite must. Because this appears as your first trek into the world of work, you should pick up Q’s on the best sales person and then fine-tune them for your own.
Once employed: watch the manager perform, or ask the manager if you could follow her along when she provides customer service.

Video stores and movie theaters are good options. They tend to be busiest on weekends when you will be available.
