CGH asked:
I have worked in office jobs for so long, I know the pay will be much lower in retail shops, but what is the general starting pay?? Do they normally have benefits such as insurance and do they usually let you work 40 hours, or just below to keep you “techinally” part time thereby avoiding having to pay you benefits? Thanks for the help.

They usually pay a bit more than the minimum wage to start. They hire lots of part-time people for reasons of flexibility in scheduling. If you are full-time (usually 30+ hours), they generally have a benefits package as well.

Yep, probably minimum wage unless you have some experience in management, etc. I believe you can work your way up quickly if you have such experience.

In California they start at $8 per hour I think. Several people here get $9 or more per hour. Some are getting $8.50.
