What should my hubby do for a career?

My husband is looking for a better career that he can work for the rest of his life. He is 27. He went to Brooks College and is currently working through a temp agency for Zoo News! He has experience in retail, administrative, and accounting. He has a vast knowledge of anything media related (music, books, movies, etc). We have 2 children and want at least one more in the future so that plays a big part in him being home at least SOME of the time. He has been looking into the military and has applied for the Navy, and the Border Patrol. He is waiting on paperwork for the Navy (his dad was in the navy, brother is a marine). He only has the physical test for border patrol left, so he is almost accepted (5 out of 150 people made it this far). A lot of people tell him to look into the Air force. He says he is afraid of heights and that’s why he won’t look into it, but I keep telling him he might not have to be on a plane. We are in escrow, for a house so we need to stay in San Diego. Help?

Just because you live in San Diego, does not mean he will be stationed in San Diego….the ONLY Navy Boot camp is in Great Lakes, Illinois, from there he will go for his schooling, wherever that may be……why not try the Coast Guard?

haha…its cute how you think theyll let him stay in san diego…its a possibility…but he could also end up in florida, virginia, and tons of other places…and in the navy hell be on a ship for like 6 months a year.

Well, there wouldn’t be any choice of San Diego if he chose the Air Force. Joining the Navy doesn’t mean you’ll be stationed there either. The Air Force is better than the Navy in that the deployments are shorter and not as often as the Navy. Not everyone in the Air Force flies. The only time you may have to fly in any branch of service is if you’re being stationed overseas.

Another option would be the Coast Guard. They don’t want applicants to have more than 2 dependents however, a waiver may be possible. 27 is the max age for active duty.
The thing about the military is that it is a short term career. 20 to 30 years. He may need another one to get him to Social Security age.
