Any news on when the new Canon EOS budget DSLR (after the XTi/400D) will be available? The only news I have is that there’s an announcement to be made this January by Canon at a certain convention.

I’m planning to get a Canon EOS XTi/400d this January. Got a good deal for the package with the Kit Lens ($600 USD).

Do you suggest I should just wait for the next EOS budget DSLR model? If so, how much do you think is the retail price (with the kit lens)?

  1. What? Says:

Canon will most likely announce the XTi successor at CES on the 7th or PMA 08 which starts on the 31st (most likely the latter).

Previously, the XT/350D and and XTi/400D MSRP’d at $799USD for the body and $899USD with the 18-55mm kit lens. So expect that to be the price of the new 450D(?).

In my opinion, wait for the announcement to see if you like the new model for any particular reason (it’s just speculation but I’d expect live view, maybe a kit lens replacement/option with the 18-55 w/ IS, slight design changes, and other smaller changes/features). It’s safe to say that the XTi prices aren’t going anywhere but down so wait if you’re not in a hurry.

The Nikon D60 (D40X replacement) is also rumored to debut at CES.
