Utopian Friend asked:
Chinese authorities are fed up with the bad publicity with Chinese product export recalls & are claiming this is ‘disguised protectionism’ from other countries. This was reported on CBC NEWS WORLD TV Channel, Aug. 22, ‘07.
Last April thousands, probably more that were not reported, of family pets needlessly lost their lives to China’s unsafe production practices, & Chinese authorities consider all the other recalls uproar from other countries is DISGUISED PROTECTIONISM???? What do you think?
Interesting to note that a few years prior to the tainted pet food scandal, news outlets had quietly reported on unsafe jewelry imported by China that contained almost 90% lead. It was discovered when the outer layer of adult rings wore off & underneath the object contained lead. Had anyone sound warning bells regarding this story perhaps the rest of the world wouldn’t be directing it’s attention towards China so discriminatingly for their continual record of dangerous retail products?

China is in a world of hurt by not monitoring their quality.
Companies have lost millions. I think there will be some changes in the future and it may be China will be banned from being able to port in America.

well, let’s see.
my understanding of china is that the population is 1,321,851,888. china has been exporting food for our pets through canada that killed. Official data showed that about an annual average of 300 million people in China would contract foodborne diseases. Meat product contaminated by bacteria typhimurium has the highest morbidity; Bibrio Parahemolyticous, often contained in rotten aquatic products, was the second biggest pathogenic bacteria. now you tell me, why in hell would we import food from a country that cannot feed it’s own people and when china can support that billion and a half population, three hundred million(total american population) they poison them… they feed their farm-raised seafood chicken **** and use human waste to fertilize their land crops.
TAKE NOTICE AMERICA, THIS IS CHINAS VERSION OF THE BIN LADEN ATTACK ON AMERICA.

I have a mother who works for veterinary hospital. They had to deal with a lot of sick animals and lost quite a few. It is a strong case of protectionism.
For missing the case on lead jewelry, blame the media. Isn’t that one of their responsibilities but maybe they just missed the story? That’s one reason I’m against the medias becoming big business because more stories like these will be buried. It may be too late.
